Abiotic Factors
Average Precipitation: 2.06 inches per year
The Chaparral is a dry environment, rain isn't very abundant because of the location on the coast where rain is not very often due to a different kind of storm cycle than most other Biomes. Average Temperature: 50 degrees in the winter to 80 degrees in the summer The Average temperature is very interesting. The climate doesn't change much and the temperature remains quite nice tear round. Better grab a sweater in the winter and be prepared for sun in the summer but in no way do you have to be worried about extreme temperatures at anytime. I mean think about it... we here in Tustin live in a Chaparral, when was the last time it snowed? Wind Patterns: generally cool, dry ocean breezes in the spring In Autumn in some of the Chaparral biomes such as California a very nice and warm breeze comes in from the east because of the wind patterns with change in climate. Soil Composition: Nutrient poor due to human abuse. It also has a dominant fungi and lichen population. Not very many plants can survive here that have not remained here for long because of the soil composition. It doesn't hold a very good environment unless the plan is use to such un rich soil. Dominate Geographic Features: Resembles Mediterranean Scrub Regions, lie along costal low lands and at the foot of various mountain ranges along as overlooking the beach. The Wine industry and the vines of grapes love the Chaparral and the typical vineyard is the ideal chaparral as well as the coastal scrubland that you see near the ocean. Solar Radiation: large amounts of sunlight, soil decomposition, Limiting Factors: People damaging soil dry weather, little to no water for growth (no rain) and Wild Fires |
